Volleyball Looking to Move Up the Ivy League Standings in 2013
HANOVER, N.H. – With plenty of fresh faces on the court and the sidelines, the Dartmouth women’s volleyball team is preparing for a challenging 2013 slate.
Head coach Erin Lindsey is looking for the Big Green to return to their 2011 form that saw the squad set a program record with eight Ivy League triumphs. This season, eight freshmen join a team returning a strong core of players.
For the first time in program history, the incoming class garnered national recognition with PrepVolleyball.com ranking the Dartmouth Class of 2017 as one of the top 100 in country. Opposite hitter Emily Astarita, libero Julia Lau, middle blocker Lottie MacAulay, setter Stacey Benton, outside hitters Danielle Glinka, Molly Kornfeind, Emily Patrick and defensive specialist Kendall Ronzano are the newest members of the Big Green.
Dartmouth will have a new look on the sidelines as well with the addition of Dee Smith as the team’s newest assistant coach. Smith joins third-year head coach Erin Lindsey and top assistant Jose Lugo.
The young squad is led by captains Elisa Scudder and Lucia Pohlman. The duo is part of just six upperclassmen on the roster. Scudder is coming off a year that saw her top 150 kills for the third consecutive season, while Pohlman led the team with 25 aces from the service line.
Other top returners for the Green and White are sophomores Paige Caridi and Kayden Cook. Cook made a big impact during her first year on campus, leading the team with 563 assists. Caridi made her mark as well with a Dartmouth-best 261 digs.
The Big Green open the season traveling to Poughkeepsie to take part in the Volley in the Valley Tournament Sept. 6-7 before hosting a pair of tournaments in Hanover.
