ORLANDO, Florida –  The Dartmouth Athletics Marketing department has been recognized for the second straight year at the National Convention of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) at the 22nd Annual Convention Best of Awards ceremony.

Dartmouth was awarded the silver medal in the Single Day Attendance Promotion category for their efforts to fill Thompson Arena on December 5, 2012 when Men’s Hockey hosted Vermont on NBC Sports.

To pack the house for the first nationally televised hockey game of the season Dartmouth invited back former Dartmouth hockey players, now current NHL stars to return to Thompson. With the NHL locked out during this time five current NHL players were able to attend the festivities. NHL stars included Lee Stempniak ’05 (Calgary Flames), Tanner Glass ’07 (Pittsburgh Penguins) Nick Johnson ’08 (Phoenix Coyotes), David Jones ’08 (Colorado Avalanche) and Ben Lovejoy ’06 (Anaheim Ducks).

"We challenged our marketing team to fill Thompson Arena for a mid-week TV game," said Sam Hopkins, Associate Athletic Director for External Relations. "Their creativity and hard work resulted in this well deserved award."

The NHL stars were introduced in an on-ice ceremony during the first intermission in their original Dartmouth jerseys and accompanied the win by signing autographs for fans for over an hour. Along with a heavy emphasis on youth hockey group ticket sales, employee appreciation day, corporate sponsor appreciation and season ticket holder ticket exchange, the arena was packed with a standing room only crowd and some fans back in the building for the first time since 2008.

The award marks the second consecutive year Dartmouth’s Marketing Department has been recognized in a national light and remains the only Ivy League institution nominated and recognized as one of the top-three finalists for any Best of Award category since 2007.

Initiated in 2003, the NACMA Best of Awards program honors outstanding achievement in marketing and promotions. Awards are presented in 13 categories, with each category divided into three groups based upon school size and conference affiliations to promote fairness. An association record of more than 1,000 awards entries were received for the 2012-13 year.
