Big Green Finish 10th at Yale Spring Open

NEW HAVEN, CONN. – In its second tournament of the spring, the Dartmouth men’s golf team fired a two-round aggregate score of 618 to finish in 10th place at the Yale Spring Open over the weekend.

The one day, 36-hole event was hosted by Yale and contested at the 6,700 yard, par-70 The Course at Yale.

Villanova closed with a final round team score of 290 to capture a nine shot victory over the host Bulldogs. Hartford finished in third, while Temple and Princeton rounded out the top five.

Princeton’s Bernie D’Amato shot a two-over par 141 (68-73) to earn individual medalist honors as Michael Kania and Steve Skurla of Villanova tied for second just one shot off D’Amato’s pace.

As a team, the Big Green shaved eight strokes off their opening round 313 over the final 18 holes to land in sole possession of 10th place in the 13-team field. Dartmouth was five strokes behind Brown and Yale II, who tied for eighth.   

Dartmouth had two players finish in the top 20 as sophomore Charlie Edler carded a nine-over par 149 (71-78) to finish in a tie for 15th and freshman Charles Cai entered the clubhouse with a 10-over-par 150 (76-74) to earn a share of 18th.

Senior James Pleat ended his tournament with a five-over-par 75 in the final round to finish in a tie for 38th.

Senior Andrew Jankowski and sophomore Daniel Knight rounded out the field for the Big Green. Jankowski (85-78) tied for 56th and Knight (86-79) finished in a logjam at 60th.

Dartmouth returns to the links next weekend, April 13-14, traveling to New Jersey to compete in the Princeton Invitational.
