NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Dartmouth softball team opened Ivy League action with a split at Columbia on Friday afternoon. The Big Green won the first game, 5-1, and dropped to the nightcap, 9-6.

In the opener, Dartmouth (11-13) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning behind a three RBI double from Kristen Rumley (Katy, Texas). Hillary Hubert (Grant Park, Ill.) opened the hitting with a single in the second at bat and after a Katie McEachern (San Diego, Calif.) walk and a single from Kelsey Miller (Mansfield, Texas), the bases were loaded setting the scene from Rumley’s big hit.

The host Lions got one run back in the third inning with an RBI single from Emily Snodgrass but that would be as close as the Lions would get as Dartmouth tacked on two runs in the seventh inning.

With two outs, Hubert gave the Big Green a base runner with a single through the left side and McEachern sealed the win with a two-run home run across the right field wall.

For the game rookie McEachern and Kelsey Miller (Mansfield, Texas) led the offense both going 4-of-7 from the plate while Rumley picked up her 10th win of the season in the circle. She scattered five hits allowing just one run and throwing seven strikeouts.

Morgan McCalmon (Norman, Okla.) pitched the second game and threw 5.2 innings of work, scattering nine hits and throwing two strikeouts.

The Big Green didn’t have the same luck in the second game as the Lions opened the second game with four runs courtesy of a bases loaded home run from Kayla Shimoda.

Dartmouth got on the board in the fifth inning. The half inning opened with a single from Jonele Conceicao (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) that was followed with another single from Kara Curosh (Munster, Ind.) Conceicao came on a fielder’s choice RBI.

The last two innings were a little crazy as there were a combined 10 runs. The Big Green added two more with a two-run homer from Brianna Lohmann (Belle Glade, Fla.).

Columbia used five runs in the sixth inning, courtesy of two home runs. Mackensy Lakian has a single home run while Nicole Bochard hit a three-run shot. The Big Green added a two-run home run from McEachern, her second of the game, to add two more runs but it wasn’t enough in the 9-6 loss.
