CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Dartmouth softball team closed action at the USF Invitational with a 4-0 win over Maryland on Sunday (March 17), earning a split on the day. The Big Green fell to Liberty, 10-4, to open the day and concluded the tournament with a 3-2 record.

Dartmouth (8-5) scored its third shutout victory of the season and its second of the tournament against the Terrapins.  Kristen Rumley (Katy, Texas) starred in the circle, allowing just four hits and tossing five strikeouts. Morgan McCalmon (Norman, Okla.) was a perfect 3-of-3 from the plate and nailed a two-run home run - her fourth of the season.

The Big Green opened up the scoring in the third inning. Dartmouth used a walk and an error to put two on base and a single from Hillary Hubert (Grant Park, Ill.) sent one around the bases. McCalmon also added a hit to send Jonele Conceicao (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) home.

Maryland almost managed to crack the scoreboard in the fifth inning with a single to center field and a stolen base but back-to-back strikeouts ended the inning. McCalmon put the game out of reach with a two-run shot over the left field wall, giving the Big Green the victory.

Dartmouth opened the day against Liberty. The Flames got on the board early with a run in the first inning. Leadoff hitter Katie Zavondy used a walk and a steal to move into scoring position and an RBI double from Sammi Shivock put Liberty ahead, 1-0 early. The Flames added two more runs in the top of the second.

The Big Green responded with a base runner when Kristen Rumley (Katy, Texas) singled up the middle but she was left stranded as a lineout ended the inning.

Liberty added to its tally in the fourth with a leadoff home run followed by a single from Megan Robinson followed by a RBI triple to right center from Kelby Allen. The Flames followed with a single that sent another runner around the bases. In total, Liberty added three runs on four hits.

Dartmouth responded with a leadoff single from Hillary Hubert (Grant Park, Ill.). With a double down the right field line from Kelsey Miller (Mansfield, Texas), Hubert advanced to third and came home on a RBI single from Rumley, putting the Big Green on the board. Dartmouth tried to keep its rally going and loaded the bases in the fifth but couldn't send anyone around the bases, keeping the Liberty lead at 6-1.

The Flames opened the game up with five runs in the seventh inning, pulling ahead 10-1. Dartmouth responded with three runs but it wasn't enough in the loss.

Hubert went 3-of-3 from the plate and had two runs while Rumley added two hits. In the circle, Morgan McCalmon (Norman, Okla.) tossed 3.1 innings allowing six runs. Rachel Hein (Olathe, Kan.) and Alex Jarvis (Tustin, Calif.) also saw action in the circle for the Big Green.

The Big Green next hit the diamond on Wednesday with a pair of non-conference games against Rutgers and South Florida in Tampa, Fla.
