CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Dartmouth softball team opened action at the 2013 USF Invitational with a 3-0 win over Robert Morris on Friday (March 15). In a game that was scoreless early, Dartmouth (6-3) used a three-run fourth inning to seal the win in its first action at the USF Invitational in Clearwater, Fla.

Dartmouth looked as if they might strike in the first inning putting together two hits. With two outs, Hillary Hubert (Grant Park, Ill.) got the Big Green going with a single through the right side. Rookie Katie McEachern (San Diego, Calif.) followed with a single of her own, putting two on base, but the inning ended with a groundout.

Robert Morris (11-7) got its first hit in the third inning and put a runner on base in the fourth inning with a double from Tess Apke but couldn't push anything across.

Pitcher Kristen Rumley (Katy, Texas) put in work on both sides. In the circle, she tossed seven innings of work allowing no runs and throwing a season-best 10 strikeouts. From the plate, she was 2-of-2 with a run. Captain Hubert added two hits and has posted hits in six of Dartmouth's last seven games.

The Big Green got its bats going in the fourth inning and never looked back. With a leadoff single from Morgan McCalmon (Norman, Okla.), Dartmouth put a runner on base. McCalmon moved into scoring position with a single from Rumley. Alex St. Romain (Chatham, N.J.) drove in McCalmon for the first score of the day.

Kelsey Miller (Mansfield, Texas) posted her second triple of the season in the next at bat driving in two runs and giving the Big Green a 3-0 advantage.

The Dartmouth defense shut Robert Morris down the rest of the way, allowing just two hits and throwing four strikes for the remainder of the contest. The Big Green almost added a run in the sixth inning after a Rumley single which eventually placed her on third base before the inning ended in a strikeout.

Dartmouth continues action at the 2013 USF Invitational on Saturday. The Big Green will take on Rhode Island and Quinnipiac on Saturday. First pitch is at 11 a.m.
