BIG GREEN TIDBITS
Away We Go -
The Dartmouth softball team opens its 18th season of action this weekend when it travels to the Hatter Classic hosted by Stetson in DeLand, Fla. The Big Green have a program record of 285-435-2 entering the 2013 season. The Big Green are 15 wins away from the program's 300th victory and head coach Rachel Hanson is 19 wins away from her 50th win as Dartmouth head coach.

For Starters - The Big Green are opening at a tournament for the ninth consecutive season when it makes the trip to Stetson this weekend. Dartmouth is looking for its second consecutive season-opening win after defeating Saint Peters last season. The Big Green are 3-5-0 in season openers over the last eight seasons.

Tourney Time - The Big Green will spend quite a bit of time at tournaments this season. Dartmouth has three in-season tournaments on the schedule beginning with this weekend's Hatter Classic. The Big Green are no strangers to tournaments as they have played in at least two in-season tournaments in each of the last seven seasons. This season, Dartmouth will play in three tournaments for the first time since 2005.

Bats Are Back - Dartmouth features a large group of returners this spring and returns quite a bit of its firepower from last season. The Big Green return top hitter Kristen Rumley (Katy, Texas) who led the team with a .355 average while Kara Curosh (Munster, Ind.), who hit .281 also returns. Rumley had 22 hits with four runs and six RBI during her rookie season while Curosh had a team-best 38 hits to go with 13 runs and 14 RBI.

Rumley Is Back In the Circle - Sophomore Kristen Rumley (Katy, Texas) not only returns as a big bat but also as the ace of the pitching staff. Rumley posted 151 strikeouts during her rookie campaign, good enough for second on Dartmouth's single-season list. In 2012 Rumley went 6-11 with 116.0 innings pitched and made one save.  Rachel Hein (Olathe, Kan.) also returns to the pitching staff. Hein made eight appearances and went 1-0 with a 3.57 ERA.

On The Road Again - The Big Green, like most Northern schools, will spend a large chunk of its season on the road. Of the 50 games on the schedule, Dartmouth will play 36 games on the road, 26 coming in the form of non-conference competition. Dartmouth will once again take up residence in Florida, traveling to DeLand, Clearwater, and Boca Raton, for tournaments. In all, the Big Green will play 19 games in the Sunshine State between the USF Invitational and the FAU Invitational and non-conference games with Florida Gulf Coast, South Florida and Rutgers. The Big Green open the home slate on April 5 and will play seven home dates at the Dartmouth Softball Park.

Welcome to the Team - Dartmouth welcomes a six-member freshman class this season. The Big Green rookies hail from all over the country, with two players coming from the Texas. Donning the Green and White for the first time are: Kathy Dzienkowski (Austin, Texas), Alex Jarvis (Tustin, Calif.), Brianna Lohmann (Belle Glade, Fla.), Morgan McCalmon (Norman, Okla.), Katie McEachern (San Diego, Calif.) and Kelsey Miller (Mansfield, Texas). Welcome aboard!

Welcome to Dartmouth, Coach Hart - Assistant coach Ali Hart joins the Dartmouth softball staff this season. Hart hails from Atlanta, Ga., and was an All-American at Williams College where she graduated in 2012.
