Dartmouth Announces New Athletic and Coaching Endowments
Five Dartmouth alumni have committed a total of $5.5 million to Dartmouth to create endowments to support Dartmouth’s varsity athletics programs.
Three of the gifts endow coaching positions: Douglas “Digger” Donahue ’73 will name the title of the head coach of men’s and women’s squash; Kathryn and Richard Kimball ’78 will name the title of the head coach of women’s golf; and John Lundgren ’73 has named the title of the head coach of men’s golf. Two other gifts, from Betsy and Mark Gates ’59 and Justin Gmelich and Victoria Hall Gmelich ’91, have created, respectively, an endowed fund for the men’s heavyweight crew coaches and a permanent source of funding for Dartmouth’s swimming and diving programs.
