HANOVER, N.H. - In its opening match of the 2013 spring season, the Dartmouth women's tennis team fell 5-2 to Boston College on Saturday afternoon at the Boss Tennis Center and Gordon Pavilion.
The Eagles (1-0) swept doubles action against the Big Green (0-1). Liu, the No. 16 player in the ITA Northeast Regional rankings won her match at No. 1 singles when Jessica Wacnik, the region's No. 9 player, was forced to retire due to injury early in the match. Okuda won a third set super-breaker at No. 3 singles, downing BC's Kelly Barry 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8).
"Akiko (Okuda) did a good job of breaking up Kelly's rhythm," said Head Coach Bob Dallis. "That was a nice win for her.
"BC was very tough, they were very disciplined, and they played very consistently," Dallis continued. "I thought overall that Dartmouth competed well. We just have to make a few more balls and take advantage of some of our opportunities."
Dartmouth returns to action against Binghamton on Jan. 26, at 9 a.m.
