HANOVER, N.H. - Despite a comeback victory in the third set that kept the match alive, the Dartmouth volleyball team was defeated by the visiting Yale Bulldogs Friday night at Leede Arena (25-13, 25-14, 22-25, 25-17). With the loss, the Big Green fall to 2-12 on the season and 1-3 in the Ivy League. Yale, which currently sits at the top of the conference with an undefeated record, improves to 8-5 (4-0 Ivy League).

After being beat up by the Bulldogs in the first two sets, Dartmouth pulled together and rallied to take the third set and force a forth, but Yale was unfazed, settling down in the final frame to seal its victory.

The Big Green took a 4-1 lead to kick off the third frame, helped by a Lucia Pohlman kill and ensuing service ace. With sophomore Mollie Rogers serving, however, the Bulldogs responded with four straight points to go up, 5-4. From there, the two squads went point-for-point throughout much of the frame, forcing eight ties. Finally, though, Dartmouth rookie Paige Caridi initiated a 5-2 run with a kill that gave the Big Green the lead for good. The home team was able to take the set, 25-22.

Yale sprinted out to a 10-4 lead in the fourth frame, looking like it would end the match quickly. The Bulldogs would lead, 21-10 before Dartmouth could make another rally attempt. But despite a 7-1 Big Green run late in the set, the Bulldogs never surrendered their lead, winning 25-17 to take the match.

The visitors took command in the opening set of the match, running up the score, 16-5 before Dartmouth was even able to string two points together. Yale's Maya Midzik helped put the frame away, serving up five straight points that gave her team a 23-11 lead. The Bulldogs would eventually take the set, 25-13.

The second frame went similarly to the first, with Yale taking a 10-2 lead. By the time the Big Green could settle down, the deficit was insurmountable and the Bulldogs came away with a 25-14 win.

Sophomore Alex Schoenberger led the Dartmouth offense, picking up 11 kills and adding eight digs on the night. She also notched a team-high four service aces. Rookie Kayden Cook had a double-double performance with a squad-best 19 digs and 24 assists. Junior Elisa Scudder added six blocks on the night.

For Yale, Rogers tallied a double-double with 14 kills and 18 digs. Haley Wessels was close behind with 13 kills, and also had a match-best eight blocks. Setters Kelly Johnson and Kendall Polan combined for 46 assists.

Dartmouth will look to rebound tomorrow night, returning to Leede Arena to face Brown in Ivy League action. Match time is 5 p.m.
