HANOVER, N.H. - Dartmouth women's basketball head coach Chris Wielgus welcomes six players in the class of 2016. In search of its 18th Ivy League title, the Big Green women are retooling with accomplished players from throughout the country. This year's freshman class will be called upon to uphold the Dartmouth tradition of basketball excellence.
Donning the Green and White for the first time this season are: Kasey Crockett (Southfield, Mich.), Daisy Jordan (Worcester, Mass.) Kaitana Martinez (Hailey, Idaho), Lakin Roland (Jeffersonville, Ind.), Sofia Roman (White Plains, N.Y.) and Lauren Taiclet (Wellesley, Mass.)
"I am excited for the upcoming season," said Wielgus. "My staff is great and our team has a unique balance. On the one side we are still very young. Our rookies are versatile and each brings an important skill set to the team.
On the other side many of those younger players gained valuable experience last year. Our upperclassmen have worked hard setting an example for the younger players and I am delighted with the progress our players have made. I'm looking forward to the start of the season."
Kasey Crockett, 5-11,
Forward, Southfield, Mich.
Captained her Detroit Country Day squad as a senior ... Led
DCD to back-to-back MHSAA Regional Championships (2010-12) ... MHSAA Class B
finalist (2009-10) ... All-State nominee
as a senior ... Ranked as one of the Top 50 players in the state by the Michigan
Girls Basketball Report and the Michigan Lady Ballers ... Played for the Midwest
All-Star Team at the Invitational Tournament ... Received the Quintessential
Quaker Award at the Penn Elite Basketball Camp as a sophomore ... Also competed
in track, reaching the MHSAA Track and Field State championships as a sophomore
... Graduated magna cum laude and is interested in majoring in biology or
anthropology at Dartmouth in pursuit of a career in medicine or public policy ...
Has three brothers and two sisters ... Father, Kenzo Crockett, played football at
North Carolina State (1984-85), stepsister, Ashley Jones, was a member of the
University of Michigan women's basketball team (2006-10) and stepbrother,
Tonjua Jones, played football at Northwestern (2005-07).
Wielgus on Crockett: "Kasey is an elite athlete with a great work ethic. She has played for one of the nations top high school basketball programs and can compete at a high level."
Daisy Jordan, 6-0,
Center, Worcester, Mass.
Led her Tilton School team to back-to-back league
championships (2010-12) ... As a junior led Tilton to the Class C Championship
with a 23-3 overall record ... Team also reached the Class B Championship game during
her senior season ... Earned NEPSAC First Team All-Star recognition during the run
to the Class C Championship ... Averaged 17 points and 11 rebounds per
game while leading the team in free throw percentage ... Mid-Wach All-Star ...
Three-time MVP of her team ... Scored her 1,000th point as a junior and was named
an NEPSAC All-Star as a senior ... Also played volleyball and was a two-time
Mid-Wach B All-Star ... Sister, Danielle Jenkins, played basketball at Salem
State College, while brother George Jordan played football at West Point.
Wielgus on Jordan: "Daisy is a strong versatile player who can score through contact. She cannot only face the basket, but she can post up on the block. She is also a good rebounder."

The Big Green freshman class joins returning players, Faziah Steen (Detroit, Mich.), Nicola Zimmer (Chevy Chase, Md.), Eve Zelinger (Palo Alto, Calif.), Tia Dawson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa), Kamala Thompson (Seldon, N.Y.), Milica Toskovic (Santa Monica, Calif.) and Abbey Schmitt (Winnetka, Ill.). Last season, the Big Green finished the season with a 6-22, 4-10 Ivy League record.
