PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Dartmouth softball team dropped a pair of one-run games to Brown on Sunday (April 15) to split the four-game series with the Bears. The North Division rivals split the series as the Big Green swept Saturday's doubleheader. Brown remains in second place in the North Division standings while Dartmouth sits in third place.

In the first game of the doubleheader, Dartmouth (10-17, 3-9 Ivy League) found themselves trailing, 1-0, after the first inning of play. Brown got on the board first with a home run to left field.  The Bears placed another runner on with a single from Stephanie Thompson and placed another runner on with a walks. The threat ended with a popup and a strikeout to end the inning.

The Big Green responded in the top of the second inning. Kat Hicks (Templeton, Calif.), who was 3-of-4 from the plate in Saturday's games, hit a home run of her own in the first at bat of the inning to tie the game at 1-1.

Junior third baseman Noelle Ramirez (Pompton Plains, N.J.) added Dartmouth's second home run of the game to end the stalemate in the top of the third and put the Big Green ahead, 2-1. Brown placed two runners on base in the bottom of the inning but Kristen Rumley (Katy, Texas) ended any possibility with a strikeout to end the rally.

Dartmouth put some distance on the scoreboard with two runs in the sixth inning up the lead to 4-1. With two outs, Hicks singled to left field and moved to second when freshman Rhiannon Saucedo (Las Cruces, N.M.) walked in the next at bat. Rumley showcased her prowess from the plate and nailed a two RBI triple that sent Hicks and Saucedo around the bases.

Brown (8-20, 5-7 Ivy League) utilized a seventh inning comeback and with four runs,  picked up its first win of the series. Dartmouth had trouble on the defensive end of things in final inning.

The Bears used three doubles that produced two runs, cutting the Big Green lead to 4-3 with no outs. The comeback was completed when Brown utilized a error from Dartmouth's shortstop to tie the game and a RBI double sealed the win for the Bears.

Hicks led Dartmouth from the plate. She was 2-of-3 with two runs scored. In the circle, Kristen Rumley (Katy, Texas) and Kat Hicks combined. Rumley threw 6.0 innings with eight strikeouts while Hicks, who came in in the seventh inning, allowed three runs on three hits in the loss.

Brown opened the second game with two runs in the first inning. The Bears hot bats from the end of the first game extended into the second game. Brown opened the game with a double and a single and after a ground out used an two RBI single to get on the board. A single run in the home half  of the second innings, put the Bears ahead, 3-0, entering the third inning.

The Bears defense was equally as impressive holding the Big Green to just two hits through the first four innings while banging out six hits of their own.

The Big Green began chipping away at the Bears lead and got one run back in the third inning. Ramirez was walked to give Dartmouth a base runner and she came home with a double from pitcher Hillary Barker (Duvall, Wash.).

Dartmouth made the game interesting and tied the ballgame at 3-3 in the fifth inning. Courtesy of shortstop Kara Curosh's (Munster, Ind.) first home run of the season. Meghan Everett (Flemington, N.J.) reached on an error and a Curosh did the rest.

Despite the Big Green giving the Bears all they could handle, Brown completed the doubleheader sweep with the game winner in the seventh inning. The Bears loaded the bases with three straight hits and scored the game winner on a RBI single from Stephanie Thompson.

Catcher Katie Adams (Kent, Wash.) led Dartmouth from the plate, going 2-of-3. Ramirez was also 2-of-3 with a run scored. Barker pitched 6.0 innings and allowed four runs on 11 hits.
