WEYMOUTH, Mass. — The 61st-ranked Dartmouth tennis team won its final match before it begins Ivy League play with a 5-2 victory at Boston College on Sunday. The win marked the seventh in a row for the Big Green and improved the team to 14-1 overall. The Eagles fell to 5-11.
Dartmouth took a 1-0 lead after claiming the doubles point. Sophomore Brandon DeBot (Stevens Point, Wis.) and Cameron Ghorbani (Lexington, Mass.) won at the second spot, 8-3. Senior Chris Ho (Los Altos, Calif.) and junior Mike Jacobs (Oak Park, Ill.) earned a 8-6 victory at third doubles over Billy Grokenberger and Matt Wagner.
In singles, three of the six matches went three sets, but the Big Green won two of the three. At second singles, junior Xander Centenari (Towson, Md.) beat Alex Skinner, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5. In the sixth spot, freshman Sam Todd (Encinitas, Calif.) lost the opening set, 2-6, but bounced back to win the next two, 6-1, 6-4, to win his match.
Ghorbani won in straight sets over Grokenberger, 7-6, 6-3, at third singles, and Ho topped Phillip Nelson, 6-4, 6-1, at the fifth spot.
Dartmouth opens Ivy League play this weekend when it travels to Columbia on Saturday, April 7, and Cornell on Sunday, April 8.
