HANOVER, N.H. - Junior guard Faziah Steen (Detroit, Mich.) became the 16th 1,000- point scorer in school history and the Dartmouth women's basketball team cruised to an, 87-52, win over Columbia on Senior Night on Saturday (March 3).

Dartmouth led wire-to-wire in its final home game and shot a season-best 46.7 percent (30-of-64) from the field and had a season-high five players in double-figures with two double-doubles.

Steen led the Big Green contingent with 18 points while freshman guard Milica Toskovic (Santa Monica, Calif.) tallied her second career double-double with a career-high 17 points and 13 rebounds. Classmate Tia Dawson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) picked up her second consecutive double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. She leads the squad with five double-doubles on the season.

The Dartmouth women's basketball team started fast and never let up as they closed the home slate with two consecutive wins and earned a season sweep of the Lions, the second sweep of Columbia in the last three seasons.

With a commanding 43-19 lead at halftime, the Big Green never looked back and midway through the second half took a 42-point lead over the Lions.

In her final home game, senior Sasha Dosenko (Kiev, Ukraine) posted eight points as she provided quality minutes for the Big Green in the middle of the floor.

The Big Green defense really clamped down on the Lions forcing them into 24 turnovers, which Dartmouth turned into 30 points on the other end. Another facet of the game in which the Big Green excelled was transition.

Sophomore guard Nicola Zimmer (Chevy Chase, Md.) was the recipient of lots of fast breaks, especially in the second half. After scoring just five first-half points, she had 12 points in the second stanza, most of them as a result of her getting out in the open court and converting.

Despite a short bench, the Big Green made the most of it, especially sophomore guard Eve Zelinger (Palo Alto, Calif.). Zelinger pulled down a career-high 16 points and added five rebounds and three assists with only one turnover on the night as Dartmouth's lone player off the bench.

Toskovic opened the game with a three-pointer on the first possession to get the Big Green into the groove of the game. Dartmouth looked like a team on a mission early and jumped out to a 14-6 lead behind a couple of treys from Zimmer and Toskovic. Columbia didn't have a response and a 14-6 run of its own to pull out to a 28-12 lead including seven unanswered points which forced Columbia to call a timeout.

The Lions tried to cut into the lead with transition defense, which afforded them several quick baskets, but Dartmouth's defense was just too much. The Big Green made the Lions work for every basket and was all over the passing lanes and the Lions just couldn't get anything to fall.

Columbia was just 23.1 percent from the field on 56-of-26 shooting in the first stanza.

Dartmouth closes out the 2011-12 regular season with a trip to Cambridge, Mass., to take on rival, Harvard, on Tuesday (March 6).  Tipoff between the Big Green and Crimson is set for 7 p.m. at Harvard's Lavietes Pavilion.
