Women's Tennis Wins Home Match over UMass, 6-1

HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth women's tennis team halted the UMass' four-match win streak on Friday, beating the Minutewomen 6-1 at the Boss Tennis Center and Gordon Pavilion. The Big Green improved to 4-6 on the year, while UMass moves to 5-5.

Dartmouth won the doubles point, 2-1, with victories from freshman Janet Liu (Palo Alto, Calif.) and sophomore Rachel Decker-Sadowski (Santa Barbara, Calif.) at No. 2 and sophomore Sabrina Stewart (London, England) and junior Jeri Reichel (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) at No. 3.

Decker-Sadowski then put the first singles point on the board for the Big Green, dropping only two games at No. 6 singles. Junior co-captain Sarah Leonard (Norwalk, Conn.) was the next player off the court with a straight-set win at No. 1, and Liu clinched the victory for the Big Green with a 6-2, 6-1 decision at No. 3. Her fellow freshman, Theresa Smith (University Park, Fla.), roared back from a first-set deficit to beat Jessica Podlofsky 3-6, 6-1, 10-6 in a third set super-breaker at No. 4. Stewart also won a third set super-breaker at No. 5 to take the sixth and final match for Dartmouth.

Dartmouth will next be in action in California on Friday, March 16, against the 44th-ranked Purdue.
