HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth men's tennis team beat 50th-ranked Cornell on Sunday, 4-2, to finish third at the ECAC Championship held at the Boss Tennis Center. The Big Green improved to 8-1, while the Big Red dropped to 5-5.
The teams played the singles matches first, instead of playing for the doubles point to save time. Since Dartmouth earned the required four points to win, the doubles matches weren't needed. Senior Michael Laser (Glencoe, Ill.) won in straight sets over Sam Fleck at second singles, 6-4, 6-1. At the fourth spot, freshman Chris Kipouras (San Ramon, Calif.) defeated Quoc-Daniel Nguyen, 6-4, 7-6.
At fifth singles, sophomore Brandon DeBot (Stevens Wis.) topped Alex Sidney, 6-3, 7-6. The fourth winner for the Big Green was senior Chris Ho (Los Altos, Calif.) at sixth singles over Jason Luu, 6-2, 6-3.
Dartmouth takes a couple of weeks off before playing at Binghamton on Saturday, March 3, at 5 p.m.
