HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth men's tennis team won its first-round match at the ECAC Championship on Friday, defeating 70th-ranked Princeton, 4-2. The win kept the Big Green (7-0) perfect on the season, while to Tigers fell to 2-5.
The Big Green, the tournament's fifth seed, captured the doubles point by winning at first and second doubles. Senior Michael Laser (Glencoe, Ill.) and junior Alex de Chatellus (Tiburon, Calif.) won at first doubles, 8-5. Sophomores Brandon DeBot (Stevens Point, Wis.) and Cameron Ghorbani (Lexington, Mass.) secured the point with a 9-7 win at second doubles.
In the singles matches, Princeton, the tournament's fourth seed, won two matches, but Dartmouth won at second, fourth and fifth singles to claim the match. Laser earned a straight set, 6-2, 6-1, victory at the second spot. Freshman Chris Kipouras (San Ramon, Calif.) defeated Matt Siow at fourth singles, 6-3, 6-3. DeBot topped Zack McCourt at the fifth spot, 6-4, 6-1.
Dartmouth returns to action on Saturday at 6 p.m. when it takes on the tournament's top seed and 60th-ranked Harvard. The Crimson beat Yale, 4-1, on Friday and enter Saturday's match with an 8-1 record.
