For the third time this fall sophomore Abbey D'Agostino has earned athlete of the week honors. This time she became the first Dartmouth woman to win the Heptagonal Cross Country Championship since 1997. Sophomore Matt Wefer helped lead the Big Green Sailing team to a first-place finish at the Erwin Schell Trophy race at MIT.

Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the DartmouthSports.com Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.

Abbey D'Agostino (Topsfield, Mass.) Sophomore, Cross Country

D'Agostino became the first Dartmouth women to win the Heptagonal Ivy League Championship since 1997 when Jenna Rodgers did it at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. Her time of 21:58.2 Saturday in the snowy condition of West Windsor Fields in Princeton , N.J., was four and a half seconds faster then the second-place finisher and earned the Big Green one point in the team standings. D'Agostino's finish earned her All-Ivy League First Team honors and helped Dartmouth to fifth place, a two-spot improvement from the 2010 championship meet. This is the third time this year that the sophomore harrier has been named the DartmouthSports.com Female Athlete of the Week.

Matt Wefer (Glen Head, N.H.), Sophomore, Sailing

Sophomore Matt Wefer (Glen Head, N.Y.) helped lead the Big Green to a first-place finish at the 70th Professor Erwin Schell Trophy hosted by MIT this past weekend. The Schell Trophy serves as the fall New England Championship with the top seven teams advancing to the Atlantic Coast Championship. Wefer, sailing with freshmen Ian Storck and Charlotte Snow (Annapolis, Md.), was the low-point winner for the regatta, and sailed a 1-1 set in a clutch performance to help the Big Green bring the Schell home to Hanover. Additionally, Wefer won 5-of-18 races, finished in the top three in 10-of-18 races and only finished outside of the top five in 3-of-18 races. Dartmouth next competes at the ACC's on Nov. 12.
