Sally Batton finished her 27th season as head coach of the Dartmouth Equestrian Team and Director of Riding in 2017.

Since coming to Dartmouth in 1990, Batton has led the Dartmouth Equestrian team to four five Ivy League titles, in 1997, 2007, 2010, 2014 and 2016 and also sent numerous Dartmouth riders to the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) National Championships. In 2008, Batton was named the American Riding Instructors' Association Instructor of the Year, and is certified Level III in ARIA in Hunter Seat and Recreational Riding. Batton is also a USHJA Certified Trainer.

Arriving at Dartmouth from Centenary College in N.J., she was on the faculty in the Equine Studies program, and coached their IHSA team, qualifying the team for two National Championships.

Batton coached the Dartmouth Equestrian Team to IHSA Zone I, Region 2 titles in 2005, 2007, 2010 and 2014. Additionally, she guided the team to the IHSA Zone I New England Championship title in 2014, which qualified the team for the 2014 IHSA National Championships, where they took home 10th place.

In 2015, Dartmouth enjoyed success at the highest level as Anna Knowles was the National Champion in the McDonald Scholarship Challenge with Nathalie Ferneau earning the title of Reserve National Champion in the competition. Knowles also brought home the McDonald Championship in 2016.

In 2017, Batton saw Team co-captains Meg Rauner and Claire Bick earn National Reserve Championship honors in Intermediate Equitation on the Flat and Novice Equitation on the Flat, respectively.

Batton has served on the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Board of Directors since 1984, first as a Regional President, then chair of numerous committees, and has served as IHSA National Steward from 2001-2017.

Batton was awarded the 2013 IHSA Lifetime Achievement Award. Serving on the Board of the American Polocrosse Association for many years, she also coached the Dartmouth Polocrosse Club. In 1990, Batton's book on the sport was published, Polocrosse: Australian Made, Internationally Played.

A 1983 graduate from Lake Erie College in Ohio, Batton earned a bachelor's degree in Equine Studies before earning a master's degree in Communications at Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1989.

Sally is President and Founder of the Athletic Equestrian League.
