HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth cross country seasons get underway Saturday morning at the Hanover Country Club with the programs’ annual home meet.
The name of the home meet has changed from the Dartmouth Invitational to the Maribel Sanchez Souther Invitational in honor of the former Big Green student-athlete and coach who passed away last winter after a lengthy battle with cancer.
The men’s 8K race is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. and will be followed immediately by the women’s 6K race slated to start at 11:05 a.m.
Both Big Green teams started off last season at home with near flawless performances. The women posted a perfect team score of 15, while the men were one off with a 16-point performance. Then-junior Bridget Flynn took the top spot for the women and — making his Dartmouth debut — Quinn Cooney of the men’s team was the race winner on the 8K side.
The women will look to make it four titles in a row as 2013 was the last time they failed to claim first in the standings in their home and season debut. Likewise, the men are also seeking a fourth straight title after last finishing as the runners-up in 2013.
