Dartmouth volleyball will host its two-day, four-team, six-match home invitational this weekend, Sept. 8-9, welcoming Syracuse, Sacred Heart and Iona to town.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green opened the 2017 campaign on the West Coast last weekend, falling to host Cal (14-25, 14-25, 7-25) and Texas Tech, both by scores of 3-0 (13-25, 20-25, 19-25) before taking down Eastern Washington in an exciting five-setter (25-18, 15-25, 22-25, 25-15, 15-8) to end the weekend.
Sophomore transfer Tori Dozier had a great first weekend in a green and white uniform, accumulating 67 of the team’s 77 assists throughout the three matches (12 against Cal, 25 against Tech and 30 versus Eastern). She and classmate Abby Kott – who had eight kills and five total blocks against Eastern – were named All-Tournament. Kott is currently leading the team with her 15 kills.
SCOUTING THE ORANGE
Syracuse enters the weekend with a record of 3-4, going 2-2 at its home tournament before going 1-2 at the Kansas State Tournament the following weekend. The Big Green are 0-2 all-time against the Orange, last meeting in 2012 (L, 3-1).
SCOUTING THE GAELS
Iona, too, comes to Hanover with a record of 2-4 after going 1-2 at both the Bucknell Tournament and UConn’s Dog Pound Invitational. This will be just the third time the Big Green and the Gaels have met, the other two matches occurring in 1985 and 2004. Dartmouth owns a 2-0 advantage.
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Halfway through tournament play, Sacred Heart has a 2-4 mark, going 1-2 at both the JMU Tournament and the Harvard Invitational. The Pioneers’ lone win in Cambridge was in the form of a 3-2 victory over the Crimson. In a series that goes back to 1999, Dartmouth has a 4-3 advantage. The teams met a year ago at Sacred Heart’s invite, at which the Big Green walked away with 3-0 victories over the host, Milwaukee and George Mason.
