NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Dartmouth women’s swimming and diving returned to competition for the first time in a month this weekend to face Penn and Yale in an Ivy League tri-meet. The Big Green fell to Yale (252-48) and Penn (214-86).

On Friday evening, Dartmouth's divers competed on the two diving boards. On 1-meter, Allison Green placed seventh (230.95), while Margaret Pionzio finished right behind in eighth (217.15). Later on, Pionzio had a good showing on 3-meter, taking fifth (257.30) and Green was 11th (197.65).

To kick things off on Saturday, Dartmouth’s 200-yard medley relays placed sixth and seventh. The A relay touched in 1:50.50 and the B relay followed three seconds later with a time of 1:53.71.

In the 1,000-yard freestyle, AnnClaire MacArt and Hayley Winter finished in the top 10 by placing eighth (10:23.29) and 10th (10:31.82), respectively. Amy Sun was the first of four Big Green swimmers to touch in the 200-yard freestyle, taking ninth (1:56.70).

Caroline Poleway placed fifth in the 100-yard fly (58.47), finishing right around her seed time. A few events later, she was fourth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:05.47). In the 100-yard breaststroke, Sam Norton was seventh (1:07.08), finishing behind two people that tied for fifth and ahead of two people that tied for eighth. She later touched in fifth place in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:23.53) and seventh in the 200-yard IM (2:10.08).

Touching in the top 10 in the 200-yard fly were Melanya Zaraska in eighth (2:12.68), Sarah Finlay in ninth (2:15.02) and Grace Herron in 10th (2:17.21). In the 50-yard freestyle, Megan Crook and Sun finished just five one-hundredths of a second apart. Crook touched a split second ahead of Sun to take seventh (24.84), while Sun followed in eighth (24.89). Sun continued with her strong evening by taking fifth in the 100-yard freestyle (53.19).

Kaitlyn McCaw and Poleway both finished under a minute in the 100-yard butterfly, touching four tenths of a second apart. McCaw got her hand in there first to take ninth (59.21), while Poleway was 10th (59.63).

To conclude the morning, Dartmouth’s 400-yard freestyle A relay came in fifth place (3:35.77). Made up of Sun, Laura Barthold, Sophie Smith and Crook, the relay left over four seconds between it and Penn in sixth.

On Jan. 20-21, the Big Green will host the annual Dartmouth Invitational at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center in White River Junction, Vermont.
