HANOVER, N.H. – A late rally fell short for the Dartmouth women’s hockey on Friday evening as they fell to McGill, 3-2, inside Thompson Arena in an exhibition match-up.

A bulk of the offensive fireworks came in the second period as the teams combined to score four goals. With the Big Green trailing, 1-0, just over three and a half minutes into the second stanza, freshman Kennedy Ottenbreit flicked a backhand past McGill netminder Taylor Hough.

The Marlets would answer back with a pair tallies to end the period, taking a two-goal advantage into the third. Freshman Mackenzie St. Onge cut the McGill lead to one with a little over six minutes remaining when she converted a cross-ice pass from Laura Stacey.

The Class of 2017 played well in its first action as members of the Green combining for two goals and an assist.

Sophomore Olivia Whitford picked up a helper on St. Onge’s tally, starting the play with a pass to Stacey while freshman Eleni Tebano had an assist on Ottenbreit’s marker.

The Big Green open the regular season on Sunday, Oct. 20, traveling to Chestnut Hill, Mass., to square off with No. 2 Boston College in non-conference action. Sunday’s matchup marks the second time in three years Dartmouth begins the season against BC.
