Big Green Trio Impress at Columbia Classic

New York, N.Y. – Three members of the Dartmouth men’s tennis team continued action on day two of the Columbia Classic on Saturday. Dovydas Sakinas, Blake Niehaus and Brandon DeBot each netted wins for the Big Green.

After dropping their opening round matches yesterday, DeBot and Niehaus rebounded picking up two wins each. DeBot topped Brent Switzer of Monmouth in straight sets before scoring a come-from-behind three-set win versus Dennis Zlobinsky of Fairfield in B Flight Singles Backdraw.

Niehaus earned his first collegiate victory, registering a come-from-behind three-set win against Farleigh Dickinson’s Amyot Cam. Later in the day, he defeated Christian Vierra of Monmouth in another three-set thriller.

Sakinas won his first match of the day against a player from St. John’s before falling to a student-athlete from the host Lions in three sets.

The trio will wrap up the Columbia Classic tomorrow, Oct. 6, as all three players will compete in the finals of their Flights Backdraws.
