NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Dartmouth women’s tennis team had a strong showing on day one of the Ivy Challenge hosted by Yale on Friday, picking up nine wins in 12 matches. The Big Green went 5-3 in singles play and a perfect 4-0 in doubles.
In doubles, the Green and White faced three duos from Iowa and one from Brown. Sarah Bessen and Narni Summerall had the most decisive victory, topping the Ivy League tandem of Coco Hsu and Victoria Traynor, 8-1. For Dartmouth, Taylor Ng/Katherine Yau and Jacqueline Crawford/Suzy Tan each scored 8-4 triumphs over pairs from Iowa. Julienne Keong Si Ying and captain Melissa Matsuoka netted the other win, topping Caitlin Hindmarsh and Ellen Silver 8-7(5).
In singles, Yau, Ng, Bessen and Keong each scored straight set wins while Crawford won her match after Penn State’s Chelsea Uting retired.
Dartmouth returns to the courts tomorrow, Oct. 5, facing Purdue in doubles at 1 p.m. and Iowa in singles at 2 p.m.
