Incoming Freshman Crawford Competes at WTA Event

HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth women’s tennis incoming freshman Jacqueline Crawford won three matches to qualify for her first-ever professional event in Waterloo, Canada.

Playing as an amateur in the ITF Pro Circuit Cooper Challenger, Crawford defeated 897 WTA-ranked Casey Robinson (6-3, 6-3) She went on to beat Samantha Powers (6-2, 6-2) and then the University of Memphis' former number No. 1 player, Ashley Murdock (4-6, 6-2, 6-0).

In the tournament's main draw, she dropped a 6-4, 7-6 decision to Tori Kinard, ranked 606 on the WTA computer. With these wins, the Bloomfield Hill, Mich., native's WTA ranking should move up to between 900-1,000.

Crawford has been competing this past year as an amateur on the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) pro tour and she is part of an incoming crop of players that is ranked No. 22 nationally amongst Division I recruiting classes by tennisrecruiting.net.
