HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth softball team played three solid innings of softball against regional foe, Boston College, but a big fourth inning from the visitors led to a 19-6 win for the Eagles.

Game One:  Big Fourth Inning Leads to Boston College Win

Boston College (10-22) struck first in the opening inning with four runs but Dartmouth (14-17) responded in the home half of the inning. A leadoff double from Kara Curosh (Munster, Ind.) followed by a triple from Kristen Rumley (Katy, Texas) that played Curosh to get the Big Green on the board. Senior captain Hillary Hubert (Grant Park, Ill.) kept the hits coming with a single up the middle that sent Rumley around the bases.

The Eagles used back-to-back home runs from Chelsea Dimon and Maria Pandolfo in the second frame to tack on two more runs.

The Big Green used a four-run third inning to cut the Eagle lead to two runs, 8-6. Rumley opened the inning with a single; her third hit of the day, and moved to second on a throwing error. Hubert drove the first baseman home on a double in the next at bat. Alex St. Romain (Chatham, N.J.) singled to left center and moved to second on the throw while also driving in Hubert and Katie McEachern (San Diego, Calif.), who reached with a walk.

Despite the score, the Big Green didn’t have a terrible day from the plate, tallying nine hits. Rumley led the offense going 3-of-3 while Hubert and Megan Averitt (Alameda, Calif.) each added two hits. Rumley had two runs on the afternoon.

Rachel Hein (Olathe, Kan.) got the start in the circle and threw 1.2 innings of work. She allowed six runs on four hits with one strikeout. Morgan McCalmon (Norman, Okla.) pitched 3.1 innings in relief with three strikeouts.

Those would be the last runs for the Big Green as Boston College scored 11 unanswered runs in the fourth and fifth innings, to win the shortened contest. The five-inning game was the first of the season for the Big Green.
