PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Junior Nejc Zupan (Kamnik, Slovenia) swept the individual medley events winning his second consecutive 400 IM title as the Dartmouth men's swimming and diving team closed out second day action at the 2013 Ivy League Championship.

There were numerous highlights of the day, but none bigger the Zupan defending his 400 IM title. He touched the wall with a record-setting time of 3:44.39, a new Ivy League meet record as well as a new Dartmouth record. His time is also NCAA B consideration time.

Another bright spot was the 100 back in which freshman James Verhagen (Randberg South Africa) shattered the school record, swimming a 47.55, earning him runner-up honors.  His time was 1.02 seconds faster than the record he set back in November and also earned him a NCAA B consideration time.

In the relay events, the Big Green men opened the night in record-setting fashion, breaking the 200 medley relay record with a time of 1:27.47, two seconds faster than the previous record. The quartet of Verhagen, Zupan, Will Derdeyn (St. Louis, Mo.) and Zack Doherty (Pelham, N.Y.) swam to a third place finish to set the tone for the evening.

Rookie Jun Oh (Andover, Mass.) swam his way to fifth place in the 1000 free. The rookie touched the wall with a time of 9:06.21, to add 25 points to the team score. Dylan Gabel (Alta Loma, Calif.) took 13th place with a time of 9:14.71.

Derdeyn cruised in the 100 butterfly, swimming to a fifth-place finish with a time of 48.07, breaking the school record he set at this meet last year. Andrew North (Omaha, Neb.) finished 12th with a time of 48.75.

Jay Margherio (New Canaan, Conn.) won the B Final in the 200 free, swimming a 1:37.43, which gives him an NCAA B consideration time. His time also smashed the 33-year-old school record set by Todd Taylor back in 1980. Margherio's time was nearly one minute faster.

Zupan opened the day with a second place finish in the 400 IM preliminary swim. The reigning Ivy League champion swam a 3:50.04, an NCAA B time and seeded himself second for the evening's finals. Logan Briggs (Issaquah, Wash.) qualified for the B Final with a time of 3:56.99, while Joseph Chance (Lafayette, La.) took 26th with a time of 4:30.03.

Derdeyn picked up an NCAA B time in the prelims of the 100 butterfly and set a new school record with a time of 48.09,besting his own record he sat at this same meet last season by .57 seconds. North and Verhagen also qualified for the B Final with times of 49.24 and 49.62, respectively.

Margherio led the 200-free contingent and placed 10th with a time of 1:38.33, just .24 seconds off of the current school record.  Ian Woon (Boulder, Colo.)  placed 20th with a time of 1:40.66 while Doherty was 26th.

Konrad von Moltke (Hinsdale, Ill.) earned a spot in the 100 breast finals with a time of 56.99 while Verhagen rounded out the morning swims with an NCAA B consideration time in the 100 back. The South Africa native swam a 48.30, a new school record and good enough for a sport in the A Final. Aaron Athanas (Beverly, Mass.), Daniel Whitcomb (Winnetka, Ill.) and Matt Long (Parker, Colo.) also qualified for the finals.
