SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Dartmouth women's hockey team had never lost to Union in 18 all-time meetings coming into Saturday's match-up at Messa Rink. That trend continued to hold true with a 6-0 road win for the Big Green.
A dominant performance was what Dartmouth needed to even its ECAC Hockey record at 4-4-1, while also improving to 8-5-2 overall. The Dutchwomen on the other hand fall to 5-11-3 overall and remain winless in league play at 0-7-3.
Junior Lindsay Holdcroft made 17 saves in recording her ninth career shutout and improving to 7-4-2 this season. It was her second of the season and the third by the team's goaltending unit in 2012-13.
Exactly midway through the first period, sophomore Lindsey Allen scored her fourth of the season. Freshman defender Olivia Whitford picked up the first of three assists on the day in setting up the eventual game-winner. It didn't' take long for Whitford's defensive partner Brennanto collect her first collegiate marker, doing so just 4:58 later.
That two-goal lead lasted just 25 seconds as Forfar scored her second career tally on the next shift, pushing the lead to 3-0. Dartmouth held an 18-3 lead in shots at the end of the first, peppering Union's Shenae Lundberg, the ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Month for December.
The second period saw Dartmouth build on its lead with Samantha Zeiss scoring at the 10:34 mark. Forfar found the back of the net again, scoring her second with a minute left in the stanza to send the teams into the second intermission separated by a five-goal margin.
Brennan followed up her first with another 13:38 into the third period. That would be all the scoring on this day as the Big Green matched their season high in goals with six.
Dartmouth dominated, outshooting Union, 45-17, on the afternoon, while also playing a disciplined game that saw them take only three penalties.
The Green and White will be back in action Wednesday for a mid-week tilt at Vermont's Gutterson Fieldhouse 7 p.m.
