EUGENE, Ore. - Two former Dartmouth men's track & field athletes took part in the US Olympic Trials Friday night at Oregon's Hayward Field.

Adam Nelson's '97 bid for a spot on his fourth Olympic team came up just short in the shot put as his third throw of the day was measured at 60-4.5/18.40m. That distance was18th in the standings and will not have him move on past the preliminary round.

In the prelims of the javelin, Sean Furey '04 advanced to the next round of competition after a sixth-place showing Friday night. The former Big Green student-athlete qualified with a throw of 249-4.0/76.00m.

Furey will now compete in the finals of the event Monday night at 9 p.m. ET. Monday will also see Abbey D'Agostino (Topsfied, Mass.) and Alexi Pappas (Alameda, Calif.) in the preliminaries of the 5,000 meters and 3,000-meter steeplechase.
