Heavyweight Crew Falls in Atalanta Cup Races
PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Dartmouth men's heavyweight crew team dropped its races to Brown in the battle for the Atalanta Cup on Saturday (April 21).
The Bears swept all of the races, including the first varsity eight that secured the Cup for the Bears. Dartmouth hasn't won the Atalanta Cup since 2003.
In the first varsity eight race, the Bears jumped out to a early lead and cruised to the first-place finish. The Bears crossed the line with a time of 5:58.1 while the Big Green took second with a time of 6:15.1
The Big Green took second in the varsity four race with a time of 7:49.6 and in the freshman race with a time of 6:25.6, just two seconds behind Brown's top boat.
In the second varsity eight race, the Bears boated a second varsity and a third varsity while the Big Green just boated one boat. Brown took the top two spots with times of 6:13.3 and 6:19.1, respectively. Dartmouth rounded out the race with a time of 6:32.7.
The Big Green continues their road stretch when they travel to Madison, Wis., to take on the Badgers and MIT for the Cochrane Cup. Racing takes place on Saturday (April 28).
