PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The Dartmouth women's tennis secured a 4-3 victory at Penn when freshman Janet Liu (Palo Alto, Calif.) broke a 3-3 tie with a three-set victory at third singles. The win improved the Big Green to 8-10 overall and 2-2 in the Ivy League. The Quakers fell to 6-10 on the season and 1-4 in the conference.
Penn took a 1-0 lead after winning all three doubles matches. The Quakers pushed the lead to 2-0 after winning first singles. Dartmouth got on the board when sophomore Rachel Decker-Sadowski (Santa Barbara, Calif.) won at the sixth spot, 6-1, 6-1.
The Big Green tied the match at two, following freshman Theresa Smith's (University Park, Fla.) 6-3, 6-1 win at fourth singles. Dartmouth took the lead, 3-2, after sophomore Sabrina Stewart (London, England) topped Srinidhi Raghavan at fifth singles, 6-3, 7-6. Penn tied the match at three by winning the second singles match, but Liu earned her 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 victory to secure the team victory for the Big Green.
Dartmouth next plays on Friday, April 20, at Brown at 12 p.m.
