BOSTON, Mass. – The Dartmouth women’s soccer team fought through 90 minutes of play but was unable to find the back of the net in Tuesday night’s 1-0 loss to Boston University.
Terriers’ junior midfielder Julianna Chen scored the only goal of the night in the 18th minute. Assisted by Jesse Shreck and Anna Heilferty, Chen dodged past a Big Green defender and sent a shot into the net from inside 20 yards, it is her second goal of the season.
“I can’t fault our team’s work ethic as we went through the game today,” said head coach Ron Rainey. “I felt in the second half we worked smarter both offensively and defensively, and we were more brave trying to go forward creating chances. I think we have to try and start games that way, that will be our focus in training the next few days.
“We are looking forward to starting Ivy League play and I think this non-conference slate has prepared us and showed us what we need to work on.”
BU outshot Dartmouth 15-4 and tallied five shots on goal to the road team’s three. Freshman keeper Mariel Gordon for the Green and White recorded four saves.
The Terriers improve to 3-5-2 overall while the Big Green fall to 4-4-0. Dartmouth will travel to Providence, Rhode Island this weekend to face Brown in the first game of Ivy League play.
