2016-17 (Freshman): Made his collegiate debut at home vs. Yale on Jan. 20, registering 6 saves on 7 shots.
Before Dartmouth: One of two incoming freshman goalies, Shatzer attended Culver Military Academy for four years. As a junior and senior, he and his teammates won back-to-back Lawrence Academy Tournaments as well as two USA Hockey Mid-American District Championships. Those district titles earned the Eagles a berth in the USA Hockey U18 Tier 1 Nationals. As a senior at CMA, Dean played in 21 games with a 1.78 GAA and .935 save percentage. Prior to attending the Indiana-based academy, he played for the Rocky Mountain Roughriders U14 team (Colorado), which won a NAPHL Championship in 2012. This past season, Shatzer tended goal for the Odessa Jackalopes and helped his team earn a trip to the NAHL Playoffs. In 37 regular season games, he played almost 2,000 minutes and was one of only 11 goalies in the NAHL to record over 1,000 saves.
Personal: Dean is the son of Michael and Kathy Shatzer and has one brother...Enjoys boating, camping, hiking, skiing, volleyball, and roller coasters...At Dartmouth, he plans to study economics for a career in business.
