Q&A with Sam Lee

Why Dartmouth?
I originally was looking to attend a much larger university but visiting Dartmouth after admission made me realize that I enjoyed the small school atmosphere. All the students I talked to during my visit loved it here and the focus on undergraduate education that Dartmouth has really drew me in.

How long have you been rowing and what interested you about rowing?

I walked on this fall. In high school I swam competitively and I believed that the mental toughness I formed through hundreds of hours of staring at the bottom of the pool would transfer to rowing.

What is something about you that might come as a surprise to your teammates?

Although I come from California, I'm from the Central Valley, not from the bay or LA area like most Californians at Dartmouth. I went to school in Modesto, one of the least educated, most miserable, dirtiest, most polluted, and most unemployed cities in America, according to Forbes. But what do they know?

What extracurricular activities are you involved in on campus?

I currently write for the Dartmouth Undergraduate Journal of Science and am a member of Dartmouth Humanitarian Engineering.

What are your future plans, if any?
It's still early for me. I'm exploring with my classes and hope to have a direction by the end of freshman year.
