HANOVER, N.H. – It was announced Tuesday afternoon that Dartmouth women’s cross country head coach Mark Coogan has accepted an offer to coach a newly formed team of elite distance runners sponsored by New Balance.

Between cross country and track & field, Coogan coached five All-Americans, won the 2013 Ivy League Cross Country Heptagonal Championship and helped groom Abbey D'Agostino into a five-time national champion during his four years leading the Big Green women’s distance runners.

Under Coogan’s guidance, D’Agostino became the most decorated individual male or female in Ivy League history with four combined NCAA titles between indoor and outdoor track and the most recent cross country national championship this past November.

Alexi Pappas ’12 also benefited from Coogan’s coaching, earning All-America honors in the steeplechase her senior year. Sophomore Dana Gioradano was another All-American under his tutelage this this fall in cross country, finishing 31st overall at nationals.

In addition, Coogan produced an All-American quartet of Pappas, D’Agostino, Megan Krumpoch and Christina Supino in the Distance Medley Relay at the 2012 NCAA Indoor National Championship meet. The 2013 Heps crown in cross country was the first for the program since 1997.

Coogan will remain with the Big Green through the outdoor season in addition to starting his work with new Balance.
