BLACKSBURG, Va. - Dartmouth freshman diver Brett Gillis (Kitchner, Ontario, Canada) opened action at the 2013 NCAA Zone A Diving meet on Friday. Gillis placed 27th in the 1-meter preliminary.
Gillis, who performed six dives in the preliminary round, scored a 253.60 that placed him 27th and out of the finals which only take the top 18. Gillis' score was just 14.85 points away from the 18th place finisher, Joshua Koppel from UMass.
Gillis will continue action at the 2013 NCAA Zone A Meet on Saturday with the 3-meter competition. Action gets underway at 12 p.m., with preliminary action. The top 18 divers will advance to the finals Saturday afternoon.
A total of 11 divers from Zone A will automatically qualify for the national championship. There will be six women who will advance and five men.
