Skiers Finish Colby Carnival in Second
Despite claiming five of the top eight spots in the men’s 20K Freestyle race, Dartmouth came in second as a team since just the top three Big Green skiers counted toward the total. Junior Steven Mangan (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) crossed the finish line in second with a time of 47:27.4 to reach the podium. The next Dartmouth competitors to complete the race finish in a cluster, taking fifth through eighth places with sophomore Silas Talbot (Anchorage, Alaska) leading the pack in 47:41.4. He was followed by junior Erik Fagerstrom (Eden Prairie, Minn.) in 47:48.9, senior Scott Lacy (Aspen, Colo.) in 47:49.5 and junior David Sinclair (Waitsfield, Vt.) in 48:01.5.
Sophomore Carly Wynn (Queensbury, N.Y.) was the top Dartmouth skier in the women’s 15K Freestyle, coming in fifth with a time of 44:27.9. Next across the line for the Green was senior Megan Killigrew (Putney, Vt.) in 11th place at 44:44.5, while junior Isabel Caldwell (Peru, Vt.) finished up in 14th in 45:03.1. Two New Hampshire skiers, led by Annika Taylor, took the top two spots on the podium to lead the Wildcats to victory in the event with 132 points, with Vermont in second (105) and Dartmouth third (95).
Next weekend the Big Green will finish up the Vermont Carnival with the Nordic events at the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, Vt. The alpine portion of the carnival took place on Jan. 11-12 with the host Catamounts leading the field with 422 points. Dartmouth sits in third with 357 points, trailing UNH by 37.
