Q and A with Leif
Simple answer- Dartmouth was the best school that accepted me. As to why I applied, a friend of the family who was an alum kept talking it up. Also, the academic, as well as outdoors, programs appealed to me.
How long have you been skiing and what got you interested in skiing?
I've been on skis since I was 3, mostly on backcountry trips out to our cabin or on trails near my house. I only started racing my junior year in high school. I wanted to get into a sport, and I knew I enjoyed skiing, so it seemed like the obvious choice to join my high school team.
Have you won any academic or skiing awards recently?
I was 6th in the White Mountain Classic and 11th in the Craftsbury Marathon. Obviously not a huge deal if you're familiar with those races, but hey, I'll take what I can get.
Tell me something interesting about you that might come as a surprise to your teammates.
Much as I might ignore the fact, my Dad's family is from the midwest.
What are your future plans, if any?
Beyond finishing a degree in bio (or maybe engineering, or a combination of the two), I really don't have any definite plans. I might do grad school and try to get into research if that still suits my interests.
What extracurricular activities are you involved in on campus?
School and skiing related activities are really about all that's on my plate right now, but it keeps me busy enough.
