Q&A with Lilly Maguire
From the first weekend I visited Dartmouth, I knew I would go here. I just loved the friendly atmosphere. The excellent academic reputation and rowing of course also attracted me. I also loved the Connecticut river and the natural beauty of the campus, which is a nice change from the city. On my official visit I rode in the coach's launch to the 2k course finish line, and when I saw that view of the mountains I fell in love with this place!
How long have you been rowing and what interested you about rowing?
I started rowing the summer after my junior year of high school. People had always told me to row because of my height, but I never really considered it because I played rugby at the time. My best friend convinced me to go to a rowing camp with her at the University of Wisconsin, so I said yes and got hooked on rowing!
What is something about you that might come as a surprise to your teammates?
I was cut from my my freshmen high school basketball team despite being 6'1'' at the time. Probably because I am a bad jumper!
What extracurricular activities are you involved in on campus?
I write for the sports section of The Dartmouth, I work with local school children through Indian River Mentoring, and I am a member of Alpha Phi sorority.
What are your future plans, if any?
I plan to go to law school and hopefully pursue health law and bioethics!
