The Elite Day Camp session of Chris Wielgus Basketball
School is for the committed basketball player, ages 14-18, who is
serious about improving her skills and playing basketball at the
collegiate level. The day camp will combine work on fundamental skills with
position-specific instruction as well as game competition. Instruction will be offered by the Dartmouth women's basketball staff,
Dartmouth players and other experienced collegiate coaches from a
variety of schools including: Bowdoin, Colby, University of Chicago,
Merrimack, Middlebury, Skidmore and Wesleyan, among others.
Campers at the Chris Wielgus Basketball School will get a
college basketball experience, seeing the Dartmouth campus and playing in
Dartmouth's Leede Arena. The camp will create a competitive but fun
environment that encourages development in passionate athletes.
Sessions will focus on individual skill development and team concepts
including five-on-five competition.
In addition to the quality level of instruction and
competition, campers will learn what to expect during the recruiting
Chris Wielgus is in her 27th season as the head coach of Dartmouth College women's
basketball and her 29th as a collegiate head coach. She is widely
renowned as an expert strategist and teacher of the game with more than 400 career victories and over 375 wins at Dartmouth. In 2008-09, Wielgus led Dartmouth to its 17th Ivy League
Championship and the 12th under her direction. She reached the 400-win
mark in her career and secured the Big Green's fifth-straight
postseason appearance with a bid to the 2009 NCAA Women's Basketball
Championship. Wielgus first began her association with Dartmouth in
1976, quickly turning the fledgling program into the Ivy's elite, with
four championships by 1983. She began her second stint at Dartmouth in
1993 and picked up where she left off. Since her return, Dartmouth has
won eight more Ivy titles and finished third or better in Ivy play in
19 of her last 22 seasons. During her 24 seasons at Dartmouth,
Wielgus has mentored seven Ivy League Players of the Year, seven
Rookies of the Year, 80 All-Ivy honorees and 28 first team All-Ivy
Erin Rewalt '99, a former Dartmouth player coached by Chris Wielgus, joined the coaching staff for the 2010-11 season. She broke into college coaching with a one-year stint at William & Mary in 2009-10, where she helped develop five all-CAA players for the Tribe. Rewalt was a four-time All-Ivy honoree at Dartmouth, winning an Ivy Championship and advancing to the NCAA Tournament as a senior in 1999.
Yolanda Griffith, WNBA All-Star and two-time Olympic gold medalist, joined the Dartmouth coaching staff for the 2012-11 seson. Griffith played professionally for 16 years on
three continents and for five different leagues. Not only did she compete in
the WNBA, but also the Euroleague, the American Basketball League (ABL), the
Women's Chinese Basketball League (WCBL) and the Women's Korean Basketball
League (WKBL). In both the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games, Griffith earned a gold
medal as a member of Team USA.
The three Dartmouth coaches are joined by various collegiate coaches
and players to bring a wide breadth of experience to campers.
