Personal: Cristina Herren is the daughter of Eunice Deane. At Dartmouth, Cristina plans to study computational biology.

Why Dartmouth?

I'm from Chicago and when I looked at colleges I wanted experience something out of my immediate comfort zone. Also, the community of Dartmouth and the pride every student here has for their school really stood out to me, demonstrating Dartmouth's unique undergrad character.

How long have you been riding and what got you interested in riding?

I've been riding consistently since I was 10 years old and started working at the stables near my house when I was 11 in order to earn extra lessons. I have loved horses so long that I can't even remember why I first started to ride, but something about the partnership between the horse and rider always appealed to me.

Have you won any academic or equestrian awards recently?

Over the summer I stayed at Dartmouth to work at Morton Farm (the college's farm) and also went to some horse shows where I qualified for the New England Horsemanship Council Medal Finals, though I was not able to attend.

Tell me something interesting about you that might come as a surprise to your teammates.

The first time I ever went for a pony ride when I was 2, I cried and wouldn't get on.

What are your future plans, if any?

Though I hope horses always play a role in my life, I plan on being a Government and Biology double major and ideally would like to work in international relations.
