HANOVER, N.H. Morgan Illikainen, a 2015 Dartmouth graduate and a former alternate captain, was named an assistant coach with the Big Green women’s hockey team. She returns to Hanover after spending a season as the hockey and lacrosse assistant at the Northwood School in Lake Placid, New York. 

While at Northwood (2016-17), she assisted with planning, organizing and instructing all on-ice practices and lifts, working mostly with the defensive core unit. In addition, she helped with recruiting and had an active role in admission decisions. She also worked with the lacrosse team throughout the 2017 season.

Illikainen’s time away from the rink and the lacrosse field was spent in the classroom, as she served as the world history teacher. She was responsible for all facets of planning, organizing and instructing daily history lessons to sophomores.

Most of Illikainen’s life has been spent at a rink. She was a USA Hockey intern coach at the U15 National Development Camp (2017), a USA Hockey Evaluator (2017), coach with the Grand Rapids Area Youth Program (2011-15) and an attendee at the USA Hockey Player Development Camp (2009-10).

Illikainen graduated from Dartmouth with a degree in psychology and government. While wearing a green and white uniform, she appeared in 112 games. Her most successful season was her final year, scoring four goals and tacking on seven assists for a career-high 11 points. She also had three power play goals and the game winner against Northeastern on New Year’s Eve.
